Just don't drill the front bumper of your Porsche.  Legally, yes, a front license plate is required in Texas.  From recent encounters, West Texas seems to place a higher value on the front plate being displayed than cities like Houston.
Some of the troopers in this area feel that it's an easy way to pull someone over when they're actually looking for something else.  They don't place a high priority on the front plate itself.
The proper installation of your factory front plate holder requires drilling in to your front bumper.  To repair a front bumper that has drilled holes in it will run around $1,500 for a nice job.  Most Porsche dealerships will drill at the customer's request only.  This is not what you want to have happen to your new Porsche.
About 90 percent of Porsche sports car owners do not use a front license plate in Texas.  That does not make the practice legal.
Momentum Porsche in Houston now carries front plate holders that screw into the receptacle for the eye-hook in the front bumper.  What's that?  It's the threaded hole under that little circular plug in the front bumper.  FYI there's also a threaded hole in the rear behind the license plate.  The eye-hook itself is kept near your tool kit.  Its purpose is to give flat bed tow trucks a place to hook on to your Porsche to avoid bending expensive aluminum suspension parts.
Once properly fitted, the front plate can spin off in a matter of seconds and then spin back on just as easily.  This is by far the best solution to the front plate dilemma.  You can go with or without the front plate and not damage your bumper.  Oh, don't forget the $1,400 savings.
